Emergent Generation Visits the Apricot Centre and Martin Crawford’s Forest Garden
About the event
Discover how the health of soil, food, and nature are intimately connected to human wellbeing during an inspiring day at the Apricot Centre, Totnes, Devon with Emergent Generation. Explore a thriving agroecological farm, learn about its mixed-enterprise model and integrated therapeutic work.
This vibrant working farm doesn’t just grow food, it cultivates resilience, connection, and healing for both people and the planet.
The Centre operates as a social enterprise with three integrated aims:
🌱 To run a diverse regenerative farm producing nutrient-rich, organic food.
🧠 To provide a warm, effective therapeutic service for children and families.
💚 To demonstrate a business model that is resilient, ethical, and ecologically sound.
By combining agroecological food production with nature-based therapeutic work, the Apricot Centre offers a unique space where social justice, mental health, and environmental care meet.
We’ll share a delicious lunch together made local produce straight from the farm before heading to the legendary Martin Crawford’s Forest Garden. The group will enjoy a unique guided walk and discussion with experts about perennial agroforestry systems and long-term ecological design.

About the Apricot Centre:
The Apricot Centre is a regenerative farm, wellbeing hub, and social enterprise. Its mission is to care for the earth, its people, and the future by building systems that are ecologically rich, socially just, and economically resilient. Through its work, the Centre demonstrates a model for a hopeful future – one rooted in biodiversity, mental health, and the practical realities of land-based living.
About the Martin Crawford’s Forest Garden:
Martin Crawford’s Forest Garden is a pioneering example of temperate forest gardening and sustainable agroforestry. Established in the 1990s, the garden spans around two acres and is designed to mimic the structure and resilience of a natural forest, with multiple layers of edible and useful plants – from canopy trees and shrubs to ground covers and climbers.
It contains over 500 species, many of which are unusual or lesser-known food plants, chosen for their ecological roles and ability to thrive in the local climate without chemical inputs. The garden serves as a living demonstration of permaculture principles, offering education, inspiration, and a practical model for sustainable food production.
