Meet the maker of Stonebeck Cheese: Guided farm walk
Experience the unique landscape, meadows, biodiversity, sustainability, native rare breed cows and cheese making of Low Riggs Farm in the Yorkshire Dales.
Low Riggs is an isolated hill farm comprising 460 acres of severely disadvantaged meadow, pasture and moorland on the Middlesmoor Estate in Upper Nidderdale within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).
The climate is harsh and the growing season short, with long winters and high rainfall. The farm is currently stocked with 150 ewes and 20 cows plus followers (the teenagers and calves).
Sally and Andrew Hatton are first generation farmers applying their scientific background and love of the environment with an holistic philosophy. Their vision is to work in partnership with the landscape and environment, making the most of its distinctive natural assets.
Attendees can park at How Stean Gorge, then join the guided walk to Low Riggs starting at 2pm on either Saturday 11th or Sunday 12th October.
Refreshments on arrival at the farm.
Sample some Stonebeck cheese before making you own way back to How Stean.
Adults £15. Children free.
It is an uphill walk to the farm of about an hour. Outdoor footwear recommended. If you have difficulty with the walk please email info@stonebeckcheese.co.uk to discuss alternative arrangements.
No dogs please.
