What You’ll Learn:

In this intensive 4-hour session, you’ll gain practical skills and knowledge in:

  • The Importance of Bespoke Animal Health Plans: Why health plans tailored to specific farms, livestock, timings, and goals are essential for animal health and welfare.
  • Adaptive Strategies for Parasite Control: How robust testing, observation and monitoring can reduce parasite burdens in livestock.
  • Promotion of Animal Welfare through Environmental Enrichment: Identify opportunities to enhance animal welfare through the provision of shade, shelter, browse options, and social structures.
  • Minimising the Need for Mutilations: Evaluating the necessity of mutilations (e.g., castration, tail docking) and implementing strategies to reduce their use.
  • Understanding Mineral and Micro-Nutrient Status: Using forage test results to meet mineral and micro-nutrient requirements of livestock, especially in low-input systems.
  • Promotion of Responsible Antimicrobial Usage: Implement strategies to reduce antimicrobial usage, such as targeted treatment plans.
  • Importance of strict biosecurity measures

This training session is co-delivered by:

  • Ann van Eetvelt, Vet and Farmer, who runs Lurgan Sheep Vet: the country’s only sheep-only veterinary practice.

Lunch and refreshments are included in the cost of your ticket.
