Helping Butterflies: Practical Action
About the talk
Learn more about butterflies and how you can gain an understanding of their needs to create the ideal habitat. Wildlife expert Vince Lea will look at the life cycle of the butterfly and a range of different habitats at this fascinating online talk; from the holly blue in your garden, and marbled white on our farms, to specialist species like the black hairstreak that you may find at a nature reserve.
Vince will explain why making observations and monitoring is so important and how this information can help you to ensure you are going in the right direction. He’ll share the work that the CRT have been doing to encourage biodiversity and look at ways in which we can all play our part to help support butterflies and their habitats.
There will also be an opportunity to ask questions after the main presentation.
About Vince Lea
Vince has a wealth of knowledge on all aspects of wildlife conservation and has played a key role as conservation officer at the CRT for many years. Having monitored the wildlife on our farms for so long, he has a great insight into the changing environment and its impact on local wildlife species.
Vince volunteers for Butterfly Conservation as their Conservation Officer for Cambridgeshire, undertaking practical conservation to support black hairstreak, chalkhill blue, dingy skipper and other threatened species in the county. He has been monitoring and recording butterflies and moths for over 20 years.
As well as working part-time for the CRT, Vince also surveys birds for organisations, such as the British Trust for Ornithology (BTO) and other species for local conservation organisations. He is invested in achieving a sustainable lifestyle, by growing vegetables and for example harvesting energy to run the home.
