Multi Species Leys – Agricology Vlog

Dr Alastair Leake (Director of Policy & the Allerton Project for the Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust) discusses why they are trialling taking an arable field out of crop production and have sown it with mixed species leys (filmed during September 2019).

He explains they’re growing a traditional grass and clover mix alongside a mix which contains many more species and comparing how well the lambs grow on the different diets and how well they can make silage from two strips in the middle of the field. The field is being put in to grass as part of improving their rotation for soil quality and weed control.
