Agroforestry & Irrigation for market gardeners and small farms
This short course is a double-bill introduction to setting up an irrigation system suitable for a market garden and getting started with agroforestry on your farm.
In the first part we will look at the options available for irrigating veg and flower beds, and polytunnels. Participants will get hands on with irrigation materials and consider the theory and elements to make a well-functioning system on a budget. We will look at Taybank Growers Coop’s market garden as an example site.
In the second part we will consider the theory and practice of agroforestry systems. We will study the agroforestry developed on Blackhaugh Community Farm and consider options suitable for your setting.

This workshop is aimed at people who are working or training at Market Gardens and new entrants who are in the process of setting up market garden businesses, but community growers, smallholders and home gardeners are also welcome!
Taybank Growers Coop is a small, local workers cooperative based on Blackhaugh Community Farm. We believe that people should be connected to where their food comes from and be part of the farm community. We host volunteers, run workshops and community events, sell to local businesses and to the community through our wee farm honesty shop
The course will be led by Landworkers’ Alliance member Johnny Agnew who is a founding director of Taybank Growers Coop and Blackhaugh Community Farm. He has 6 years market gardening experience. He also cultivates mushrooms and is a practising ecologist.
