Emergent Generation In The City: Bristol

Date : 11th April 2026 | 11:00 am - 4:30 pm
Venue : Bridge Farm Community, Glenfrome Rd, Bristol BS16 1BQ, UK

The team at Emergent Generation have long been inspired by the thriving community-powered food system emerging in Bristol, and are excited to spend a day visiting some of the city’s pioneering projects and people.

Event description

Attendees will meet at the lovely Bridge Farm Community, a thriving urban farm dedicated to living with the land, in community. This innovative farm works slowly and sensitively with the earth, trees, flowers, vegetables, fruit and animals working alongside wildlife corridors.

If the weather is kind, attendees will take a walk with Street Goatthe cooperative that has brought goats to the streets of Bristol. This urban goat farming collective aims to connect communities to sustainable food production and regenerative land management. They produce raw milk dairying and meat on a micro-scale, while giving local people a hands-on connection to animals, land stewardship, and cooperative farming models.

Street Goat is a volunteer-powered project using goats to manage urban landscapes through conservation grazing. Attendees will go and meet the goats grazing around the city’s Second World War anti-aircraft battery next to the M32!  The team will take us to one of their pop-up milking sites. No one will be in milk in April, but there should be 5 pregnant goats in that field to say hello to!

Attendees will enjoy a delicious lunch back at Bridge Farm cooked by Coexist Community Kitchen – a social enterprise using food to support people experiencing hardship, build confidence and skills, and bring communities together around the table.

After lunch attendees will hear from Founder and Em Gen’r Alex Montgomery at Generation Soil CIC, a Bristol-based community interest company dedicated to regenerating local food systems from the ground up. Through its Bristol Living Compost Project, they work with households, small businesses, schools and community groups to collect food waste and transform it into biologically active, living compost that is returned to urban soils to grow food, support biodiversity and strengthen local resilience.

The day will end with a talk from Ped Asgarian, who has been working to make a local food system that benefits both people and the planet for over a decade in the Bristol region. He has been the Director of Feeding Bristol for the past 5 years, and previous to that The Community Farm in Chew Magna, where he is now a trustee. Ped is also Trustee at Cardiff Farmers Markets and Bristol Food Producers

Ped is passionate about food justice and driving meaningful change to make a food system where everyone has access to healthy, nutritious and affordable food, and is able to engage with that system with choice and dignity. He will explore the work that is happening in the city and discuss what makes an equitable food system and the importance of food citizenship.

There will also be time for questions and reflection with one another – maybe you’ll find inspiration to take back to your own communities?

After the formal programme ends there will be an opportunity to head to the community pub, Greenbank in Easton for an optional social gathering to keep conversations flowing.
