Emergent Generation: Net Zero Food System Workshop

Date : 3rd September 2025 | 10:00 am - 5:00 pm
Venue : Natoora Dockley Road, 6 Dockley Road, Bermondsey, London SE16 3AF

About
Moving to net zero and transforming the food system is complex. The exchange of knowledge and perspectives, and connection across the sector, is crucial. Young people, particularly those in the early stages of their careers or running their own businesses, are at the forefront of the net zero challenge.

This event will bring together a diverse range of young people aged 18 to 35 from across the food system for a one-day net zero workshop.

The day will begin with an overview of the latest research, policies, and practices relating to net zero in the UK agri-food sector. After a delicious lunch provided by Natoora, participants will explore their current roles and share the challenges, opportunities, and lessons learned in their work. The workshop will draw out connections, identify needs, and map possible next steps.

Attendees can expect a mix of fresh insight, honest conversation, and meaningful connection – from farmers and chefs to researchers, policy thinkers, and food entrepreneurs.

Key Speaker
The keynote speaker for this event is Professor Neil Ward, Professor of Rural and Regional Development at the University of East Anglia. Neil is a co-convenor of UKRI’s Network+ on “AgriFood4NetZero” (2022–2025) and author of Net Zero, Food and Farming: Climate Change and the UK Agri-Food System.

Who is this event for?
This event is designed for young people aged 18 to 35 from across the food system. Whether participants arrive full of ideas or full of questions, their perspectives are valued. The workshop provides a space to exchange ideas, learn from peers, and explore how these insights can be applied in both professional and personal contexts.

The organisers welcome farmers, growers, advisers, consultants, researchers, policymakers, campaigners, project leaders, food entrepreneurs, retailers, chefs, and buyers — all of whom have a vital role to play in addressing the net zero challenge.

Emergent Generation recognises that everyone is at a different point in their journey. While some may be grappling with climate anxiety or a lack of confidence to act, all attendees will bring valuable experiences and knowledge to share.

Emergent Generation particularly welcomes participants from underrepresented backgrounds, including people of colour, neurodiverse individuals, and those with long-standing illness, accessibility needs, disabilities, or infirmities (whether physical or mental).
