Farming with ecology

Date : 17th February 2026 - 27th February 2026 | 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Farmer Matt Elphick will talk through his holistic approach, where he uses and encourage ecological processes in the agricultural production of food to benefit both nature and food quality.

Matt will give an open and honest insight into how he farms with ecology at Brays Farm in Surrey, which is owned by the Countryside Regeneration Trust. He’ll look at soil dwellers such as worms, dung beetles and moles and then move up through the food chain. Attendees will gain an understanding of how his approach of encouraging these ecological processes enables him to farm without using inputs such as synthetic fertiliser and insecticide.

There will also be an opportunity to ask questions after the main presentation.

About Matt Elphick

Matt and his partner Betsy became tenants of the CRT owned Brays Farm in 2017 at 26 years old.

As a first generation farmer, Matt’s dream of running a small dairy farm was a bold and exciting adventure that has required much hard work and dedication. He’s achieved a lot on his journey so far and learnt plenty along the way, diversifying into new product areas to grow his business and transitioning to a regenerative approach to farming. Matt believes the benefits are well worth the effort.

Matt and Betsy have two young children and love watching them growing up on the farm, enjoying their family adventure together.
