Making the most of manures
AHDB North Yorkshire Monitor Farm workshop with Lizzie Sagoo.
Getting the most out of what you already have has never been more important. Manures are a fantastic on-farm resource, enhancing soils and delivering nutrients that can be used to grow crops.
To unlock the value of nutrients and manures on-farm, an efficient and effective strategy needs to be in place to manage them.
Lizzie Sagoo, a specialist in nutrient management at ADAS, will be helping to deliver this event, where we look at some of the key components that affect what value you get back from manures and other nutrients.
This event will cover
- Manure analysis: What is this, when, how often and what do the results mean?
- Soil analysis: What is going on in the soil that could be stopping nutrients being available to the crop?
- Nutrient type: What is the value and effect of different types of nutrients
- Application: Getting the right timing, rate and method is integral
- Nutrient storage: Having sufficient storage is integral, what support is available to aid this?
The second part of the event will include
- Workshop: Interpreting live examples of different manure analysis from the Monitor Farm and how to assess their nutritional value
- How to incorporate these into a management plan for the optimum nutrient strategy
- Exploring what new technologies are out there to help us practically apply these products with greater accuracy
