Scadghill Farm Tour: Real Farm Real Results

At this AHDB Monitor Farms event in Cornwall, Rob and Liz Priest from Scadghill Farm will talk about their journey though organic conversion, outwintering and rotational grazing, as well as sharing some innovative methods to promote grass growth in an organic system. The farm tour will offer a valuable opportunity to gain first-hand knowledge from the Priests, with additional insights provided by soil health specialists from Terrafarmer and researchers from the University of Plymouth.

  • 10:00–10:30am: Registration and refreshments
  • 10:30–10:55am: Welcome and introduction
    • Hear from Rob and Liz as they take you through their Monitor Farm journey.
  • 10:55am–12:50pm: Farm tour
    • Join Rob and Liz Priest and Terrafarmer for a farm tour of Scadghill Farm. We will discuss:
      • Soil and plant health
      • Flexible rotational grazing for a more resilient future
      • Organic and alternative waste material fertilisers
      • Maximising the benefits of nitrogen-fixing plants to improve soil fertility naturally
      • Successes and challenges of on-farm trials
  • 12:50–1:15pm: Lunch
  • 1:15–1:30pm: University of Plymouth drone outputs
    • Professor Tim Daley from the University of Plymouth will present Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) drone findings for Scadghill Farm.
  • 1:30–2:00pm: Terrafarmer detailed soils and forage analysis
    • Explore the latest soils and forage data with Terrafarmer to see how soil health and biological activity has transformed within the soils at Scadghill Farm over the last four years.
  • 2:00–2:10pm: Questions for Terrafarmer and the University of Plymouth
  • 2:10–2:50pm: Breakout session
    • Take part in an interactive workshop to look at the Priest’s farming system and identify Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats (SWOT) of the business.
    • Feedback on the SWOT analysis to help the farm business continue to become more resilient for the future.
