Walking and talking trees: Benefitting biodiversity and your business
Join Katharine and David Lowrie and the Integrating Trees Network for an introduction to the Lowrie family’s 80 acre farm of meadows, wetlands and woodlands.
Attendees will see, hear and discuss how the Lowries are transforming their farm to dramatically increase biodiversity by planting new native broadleaves on a third of their land. This is improving connectivity across ancient and semi natural woodlands and promoting natural regen, creating a mosaic of woodlands that complement numerous habitats including scrub, wetland, ponds, species rich meadows and hedgerows. The farm also has its own sawmill, utilising local timber for on-site building projects and to supply the farms biomass heating system, future proofing their business as well as the biodiversity. Katherine and David will give insight into their initial thought process, the decision to plant trees, their objectives, the challenges they’ve faced and benefits they’re seeing.
A Scottish Forestry speaker will be present to answer your questions on funding and the first steps to woodland creation.
Tickets are free!
