Walking and talking trees with Bruce Mackie

Date : 9th October 2025 | 10:00 am - 1:00 pm
Venue : Rora Dairy, Middleton of Rora, Peterhead, AB42 4US

The Mackie family run an organic dairy farm with 250 cows, grow organic wheat and barley mostly as feed for the cows, and produce a range of yogurts under their ‘rora dairy’ brand. Over the years, trees and hedges have been planted to create rich habitats on the farm for a wide variety of wildlife.

At this event (organised by the Integrating Trees Network), Bruce Mackie will introduce attendees to the Aberdeenshire Sma Wids project, which supports the planting of small woodlands up to 0.25ha. Attendees will hear about the many benefits of planting trees, with particular focus on watercourses where trees can stabilise riverbanks, reduce the effects of flooding, create shade for livestock and prevent water temperatures rising. Bruce will explain his initial thought process, the decision to plant trees and the challenges. Come along and join the discussion.

A Scottish Forestry speaker will be present to answer your questions on funding and the first steps to woodland creation.

Tickets are free!
