Wireworm and IPM – Field Lab Conclusions and Recommendations

Date : 20th March 2025 | 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Venue : Online

Join this Innovative Farmers webinar to discuss the results of this Field Lab exploring crop potentials to reduce wireworm in potatoes.

This Field Lab explored the potential for cover crops and biofumigant crops to control or reduce wireworm populations in potatoes. We explored control methods by harnessing the chemical properties of mustards and buckwheat in rotations to ward off pests.

Find out more about the Field Lab through the following blog: The use of cover and biofumigant crops to reduce wireworm populations in potatoes

In this webinar…

We will be joined by wireworm experts, Martyn Cox and Ben Clunie, and agronomist Richard Griffith who oversaw the trial on Taylor’s Organic Farm in Shropshire.

Through the presentations:

  • We will take a look at the observations and conclusions made in the final report.
  • We will discuss challenges that the trial presented – such as unexpected weather patterns, and the current limitations on detecting wireworm juveniles in the lab.
  • We will hear more about what the trialists learned about understanding and controlling wireworm populations, and what this means for farmers.

We encourage attendees to bring their questions to the panel through the Q&A, where there will be plenty of time for discussion.
