Sign up for a farmland bird survey

The RSPB is pleased to announce a new and expanded survey offer for England and Wales in 2026!

The Volunteer Monitoring of Farm Wildlife (VMFW) Farmland Bird Surveys scheme is a project run by the RSPB, which will match your farm with a local volunteer who will carry out a farmland bird survey. From the data they collect, you will receive a bespoke report, which will help you understand the species and numbers of birds that you have on your farm. The report also includes links to advice and case studies on how to further support farm wildlife.

Next year, the Sustainable Farming Incentive will re-open in England and the Sustainable Farming Scheme will open in Wales. The results of your survey and information provided could help with your preparations.

The RSPB is offering a discounted farmer rate for surveys next year (£150 + VAT) as a contribution towards the project’s running costs, with the RSPB funding the remainder. You can find out more about the surveys and the work of the team here and sign up for a survey here.

The closing date for registrations is Friday 17 October 2025.
