Janie Caldbeck
I am a writer, editor, researcher, grower, and part-time performer! I have an arts and science background, my training being in different forms of writing (combined with various other art forms) and in horticulture and global plant use (ethnobotany).
I’ve been lucky enough to have been involved in Agricology since it was formed, and mainly co-ordinate, create and edit the website content, working closely with farmers, researchers and others from within the industry.
I am based on the edge of the North Pennines in rural Teesdale, Co Durham. Having worked for the ORC up until September 1st 2025, my role was previously split between delivering research and knowledge exchange activities within various ORC projects (ReForest being the biggest and latest) and being the Agricology Content Editor.
My work has largely focused on exploring agroecological and climate resilient farming practices and bridging the gap between research and farming practice, with a particular focus on both agroecology and agroforestry. I am interested in innovative, creative and impactful ways of engaging practitioners and communicating research, in exploring the many benefits of multi-layered food systems and ethnobotanical uses of plants, and am driven by the need to protect and promote biodiversity and have local and fair food systems.
