Join this Soil Association farm walk to explore the agroforestry practices at Hall Farm (Brooksby Campus) in Leicestershire.
Join us for this Soil Association farm walk to explore the agroforestry practices at Hall Farm (Brooksby Campus) in Leicestershire, a new Demonstration Farm of agroecological practice.
This farm walk will welcome farmers to see how the farm is innovating with agroecological farming techniques, and integrating trees and regenerative forestry into their farm. We will also hear about how the farm is leveraging payment schemes, including Biodiversity Net Gain and the Sustainable Farming Incentive.
Hall Farm is a working arable and livestock farm based at SMB College Group’s Brooksby Campus, which utilises the farm as a teaching resource for agricultural students and farmers alike.
As part of this farm walk we will be inviting farmers to join an agroforestry farming focused learning network, where we can share learning and provide training opportunities.
You will have the opportunity to learn more about the major systems in operation at Brooksby’s Hall Farm:
- Their 20 acre field divided into paddocks of herbal ley and mob-grazed predominately with cattle. These paddocks are divided up by alleys of mixed trees, including a range of fruit-bearing and nitrogen-fixing species.
- Their 6 acre field divided up into rows of trees, a mixture of native and fruit and nut trees, and individually guarded with sweet chestnut. This overlays a diverse herbal pasture which is planned to be mob-grazed with sheep.
- Hall Farm are also developing a third system with pigs, currently in its early stages.
