Farm Tour: Trees House Farm and Dent House Farm

Join the Nature Friendly Farm Network for a farm tour with Simon Hare at Trees House Farm and Dent House Farm in Brignall near Barnard Castle in County Durham.
The farms are 360 acres, all grass with around 60 acres of hay and a further 70 acres of silage made for winter feed. Simon grew up on this organic and certified Pasture-for-Life farm. There’s a beef suckler herd of about 100 beef shorthorn and 160 breeding sheep.
All cattle are finished on the farm with a 100% grass-based diet, grazing currently from mid-march to the end of November and silage in the winter months. They’re working to extend the grazing outside.
Practices on the farm include diverse swards, herbal leys, holistic planned grazing, mob grazing, rotational grazing and silvopasture.
