Join the pilot cohort for a new Horticulture Apprenticeship
Are you a horticulture business interested in taking on an apprentice?
Or maybe you’re a prospective agroecological grower looking for a way into the sector?
The Landworkers’ Alliance is inviting you to register your interest to take part in a pilot cohort for the new 2025 – 2027 Horticulture Apprenticeship, offered by Plumpton
College (in England) and Coleg Cambria (in Wales).
The Landworkers’ Alliance has been working with Plumpton College and Coleg Cambria to establish and develop their horticulture apprenticeships as a training route for the
agroecological sector. They’re now seeking employers and prospective apprentices to form part of a pilot cohort, ready for the start of the 2025 growing season.
- The apprenticeships are being offered by Plumpton College in England, and Coleg Cambria in Wales, with support from the Landworkers’ Alliance
- The apprenticeships will last 24 months and apprentices are employed on a contract for the full duration (minimum of 16 hours p/week in Wales, and 22.5 hours average p/week across the year in England)
- Apprentices will receive the majority of their practical training on the job with their employer and are paid for their time (at least the National Minimum Wage for Apprentices for first 12 months, and at least National Minimum Wage thereafter)
- The training provider (Plumpton College or Coleg Cambira) will provide theoretical training and assessment, and apprentices will obtain an accredited qualification by the end of their training
- Apprentices will take part in LWA’s political training module ‘Agroecology as a Movement’, as well as have full access to business training materials for regenerative enterprises.
- There will be two funded farm visits per year with the rest of the apprentice cohort (nation-specific)
- Employers will be able to take part in the LWA’s ‘Train the Trainer’ pedagogical training workshop
- Employers will be paid a consultation fee to take part in 1 day’s worth of peer to peer learning and project evaluation per year via LWA
