Findings & recommendations

  • Using a diversity of varieties is recommended for resilience; traditional, regional and older varieties.
  • There are new opportunities for growing fruit in a changing climate, but beware of wet winters before planting apricot, peach and nectarine orchards. They are good to grow in tunnels, however.
  • Don’t plant new orchards without being able to irrigate for establishment.
  • Organic growing methods increase biodiversity and resilience.
