REFOREST Knowledge Hub
Resource explained
This ‘Knowledge Hub’ brings together resources from the UK and other European countries to help farmers and landowners plan, create and manage agroforestry systems, and increase understanding of the potential of agroforestry to contribute to carbon sequestration and biodiversity. Developed as part of the REFOREST Horizon Europe-funded project, it forms part of the REFOREST Engagement Platform, which is aimed at providing farmers, researchers, policymakers, and advisors with access to knowledge, decision-support tools, and networking opportunities to promote sustainable land use. Whether you are just starting out with agroforestry or further along in your learning, the Knowledge Hub has been designed to help make existing research as accessible and useful as possible to ultimately help promote the growth of agroforestry across Europe. It has also been designed to complement research and outputs that come out of the REFOREST Living Labs which are developing apps and other tools to support practical application of agroforestry.
Findings & recommendations
- The database of agroforestry resources were collated based on knowledge and experience within the Organic Research Centre agroforestry team, the REFOREST project consortium, recommendations from national and international colleagues, and undertaking extensive online searches.
- Resources have been included if they have met the criteria of:
- It gives practical information on agroforestry design and performance and/or ecosystem delivery(particularly biodiversity and carbon)
- Farmers are likely to use it / find it useful / engage with it
- It will help address knowledge gaps
- It is applicable to Europe
- It is written /communicated in English
- You need to initially register to use the Hub, after which you have free access, both to browse the Hub and to ‘recommend a resource.’
- There are various ways in which a user can search the Hub, including filtering via agroforestry type, focus, and relevant farming systems.
